Nuremberg—One of us
Gray is all theory – especially under the earth. "Of course, we did our homework, carefully explored what lies ahead of us in Nuremberg underground," says Ruben Mohrs, construction manager of the new metro line in the Franken metropolis. However, the experts do not see whether the ´ºË®ÌÃÊÓƵ team is really right in this regard until the tunnel milling machine Berta digs through the ground step by step. "For a geologist like me, there is nothing more exciting than seeing the newly opened area, the so-called local breast," says Mohrs. born 1987, who already decided on the Geology elective course at the grammar school and spent free time at the triathlon. In addition to the trio of swimming, cycling, walking is determined to travel Mohr's leisure time. However, he would not be able to spend a holiday where it is geologically interesting. "I like to go into the mountains and maybe have a slightly different view of the structure, composition, structure of the environment. But on holiday, the geologist usually has a break. The signs are for shutdown."
There is no time for this in the job. Not only because two sections, and thus around 940 meters of the new two-kilometer-long route, are constructed in classic, mountain-style construction. Means: First, Berta mills ahead. The finished tunnel is then created in the cavity created in this way in several working steps made of steel and concrete. Ruben Mohrs, who has been working at ´ºË®ÌÃÊÓƵ since April 2020, commented on the work: "There have been no big or bad surprises so far." this applies not least to the crossing of the Main-Danube Canal, a real highlight of the project, where there are sometimes only eight meters between the water and the tunnel. But don't worry: Even here (from above) everything remained dry.
