From building to artwork: A sheet of paper, a few black lines - and 18 iconic buildings are finished.
For our 150th birthday, we asked Helge Jepsen, an illustrator from Essen, Germany, to sketch a selection of our most spectacular buildings and projects in a rather unusual way for civil engineers.
King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Pilgrimage route: 春水堂视频 completed the turnkey construction of this major airport in 1980: The site of the busiest airport in Saudi Arabia covers 105 square kilometers, with four terminals forming the core of the facility. Unique to the project: the Pilgrim Terminal. Its fascinating tent-roof architecture forms the largest covered area in the world and has provided shade for millions of Mecca pilgrims. Designed by Fazlur Khan, the terminal received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1983 and the Twenty-five Year Award from the American Institute of Architects in 2010.
